Workshop
Department of Reimagined Regions, Ypres 2019
The ‘Dienst der Gedroomde Gewesten’ (‘Department of Reimagined Regions’) are a young collective of artists who use the Sint-Jansgodshuis, one of only a handful of buildings that partially survived WW1, as a base to interact with the town of Ypres and its region in a social-artistic way. In October 2019, they invited Eva Vermandel and Steven Barritt to participate in a series of workshops dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the rebuilding of Ypres.
The workshop evolved around creating photographs of this iconic building and its environs directly onto positive paper using a 10x8 camera. The paper was processed on the premises and the resulting images went on display at the Sint-Jansgodshuis the following week, using display materials that were discovered in the building.
